Harmonalia — The Hallowed Office

Whoever lawfully lifts the Auroral Staff wields the gathered faith of a people.

Harmonalia is the magic of institutions — the radiant schema of the Ancient Deity, Elder of light, harmony, and faith. It is the rarest kind of power: power that belongs to no one. A faithful people pour their devotion into a sacred material focus — a crystal throne, a hallowed regalia — and authority over that gathered thymara passes not to a person, but to whoever lawfully holds the token of office.

The shining example is Iridalia, whose strength answers to the bearer of the Iridescent Throne and the Auroral Staff. Whoever sits the throne and lifts the staff is the sovereign, for as long as they hold them — no more, and no less.

• The reservoir is a thing, not a person. Faith accumulates as charge within a material installation — a throne, an altar, a relic of state — that endures across generations of rulers.
• Authority is keyed to the regalia. Power flows to whoever holds the token of office. Coronation is not ceremony alone; it is the literal handing-over of the key to a nation's strength.
• Office over person. Because the bond attaches to the role and not the soul, succession is seamless. The institution never dies with its officeholder.
• Sustained by willing faith. The throne is filled by the devotion of a people who choose to believe. Here, legitimacy and power are the very same substance.

Devotion pours not into a person, but into the throne itself.

• What a token grants, a token can betray. Authority that transfers by an object can be stolen by seizing that object. A usurper need not be worthy — only quick, and holding the staff.
• Bounded to its seat. The Hallowed Office is territorial. Its strength is real within the realm it anchors and thins to nothing beyond those borders; one cannot carry a throne's power into exile.
• Faith withdrawn is power withdrawn. Built on willing devotion, the schema starves when belief curdles. A people that stops believing in the office hollows it out from beneath.
• Glorious and fragile at once. The same openness that makes the office immortal makes it politically perilous: transferable, contestable, and forever one coup away from the wrong hands.
