The Cursed Blue Rose
Two waters make Berevik: a river coming out of the temperate rainforest, and the ocean that takes it. Raised in the second wave of expansion, the city has grown substantial on that meeting, a place of slipways and stone quays with wet green country at its back supplying everything a hull needs. Ships are the first business, built here, crewed here, sent out from here, and behind the yards stands the industry that keeps them at sea: ropewalks, forges and sail-lofts, pitch and plank and iron fitting. Little of Breviker life happens far from the sound of water.
Berevik holds its own allegiance and is the seat of the bloc that bears its name. Its people are Suvanar, and the third pillar of the city, after the sea and the workshops, is religion. The Ruby is worshipped here as the divine, and the aspect Brevikers keep is the Beaconmistress, who holds discovery. Her priesthood, all women, works as part of the harbour rather than as an ornament to it, and Breviker captains have the name of going further out than the trade strictly requires.
