The Cursed Blue Rose
Ice shuts the harbour for part of every year, and Kratavor is organised around exactly how much of the year that is. The city sits on the northern ocean with the boreal forest running down almost to the tideline, and its anchorage is judged by one measure: how long into the cold it stays workable, and how quickly it opens again. Around that question everything is arranged — the refit sheds, the timber stacked to season, the stores laid in before the freeze. Ships come in worn from the coast and go out patched, re-rigged and provisioned.
Kratavor came up in the fourth wave of expansion and has been a naval place since, rather than a settlement that took to the sea afterwards. Its elves reckon time in commissions and refits, and the shore trades exist to serve them; in the shut months the crews stay ashore and the town runs full of sailors with nowhere to be. Orders reach the city from the Glac Dom, which keeps its ships here.
