The Cursed Blue Rose
Deep soil, level ground and a growing season long enough to matter: that is the whole of Leynadal's advantage, and the city has spent its existence making everything it can of it. Grassland runs out on every side, broken only by the ditches and stock fences that separate one holding from the next. No port serves the place and no navigable water passes near it, so carts do the work that ships do elsewhere, and the roads out are rutted axle-deep by the traffic of every harvest. Grain, hay, wool and cattle leave in autumn convoys; salt, metalwork and the manufactured things a farming town cannot make for itself come back.
Settlement here belongs to the second wave of expansion, later than the grain country around it. The elves who farm these strips keep the unhurried habits of a people who expect a great many harvests off the same fields and who recall exactly how each field behaved in each of those years. Loyalty runs to Glac Dom, and the convoys leave in that direction whether the year has been kind or not.
