The Cursed Blue Rose
The Emberguard exists on a single distinction: that fire does not only take. The flame it tends is creation fire, which heals, renews and warms, and the order's whole purpose is to keep that flame and to stand against the spread of Demon Fire, which has forgotten it was ever meant to give life.
Its Flamekeeper is Salyria, and the order she leads is not only priests. It keeps phoenixes and fire-drakes, and it keeps soldiers.
The Emberguard holds three charted places, all of them in the mountains and all of them within the Daskilon bloc: Navalis, Ignis Sanctum and Cinder Peaks. All three hold the Ruby as divine.
Navalis is the heart of it — a walled town of grey mountain stone with red roofs and ember-banners, hidden in the western Greathammers. To the world it is a herder's settlement on a hard frontier. To those who know, it is the sanctuary where fugitives from the Infernate come to be safe, and the lock upon every western pass into the Daskilon heartlands. Step by step, reads the carving above its gate, and never lost.
The Emberguard's opposition to the Infernate is not only doctrinal. The High Commander of the Infernate's armies is the Flamekeeper's younger sister, and both were raised by the same man toward the same purpose. One kept the fire; one became the weapon. There is no war on the continent fought at closer quarters than that one, and it has never yet been fought face to face.
