The Cursed Blue Rose
Cinder Peaks is a garrison before it is anything else. It sits in the bare rocky mountains of the south-east, where the stone gives no soil worth the name and the weather does half the work of a hostile army, and it holds that ground for military reasons alone. What the fortress eats comes up the mountain rather than out of it, carried by column and by beast along tracks that are hard in good weather and worse in bad. The settlement inside the walls is small and entirely shaped by the garrison's needs: quarters, stores, smithies, drill ground, and the endless business of keeping men, mounts and iron serviceable at altitude.
Its people are Lohanar, a soldiering population, recently established and with none of the deep local custom that older places carry. Cinder Peaks commands itself in the field but holds to the Emberguard, and through the Emberguard stands within the wider bloc of Daskilon. Its faith is the Religion of the Ruby, and of the goddess's six aspects the garrison keeps the Firewife, who is war. Her priestesses keep the fire in plain round hearth-circles cut into the rock, and no company musters out of the gate without it lit.
