What the charts and ledgers of Kworgalya record of this place. Its own story has not yet been told.
Flammund is the contradiction at the heart of the Creedal world: the holiest city of the Infernal Creed, and not part of the Infernate at all. It stands on the northern shore of the enormous western lake — a wealthy Suvanar kingdom of some eighty thousand, ruled by its own royal line of sorcerer-monarchs, feeding itself from irrigated grasslands its engineers have watered for centuries. It answers to no Hierophant. It never has.
It was here, in 1028 DS, that the faith's founder was proclaimed to the gathered city — a Flammunder rebel who had risen against the Radiant Queen's crusades and returned from the Pyreheart Nexus as something no longer mortal. The First Proclamation Precinct marks the spot, and it is to the Creed what a first hearth is to a bloodline. Flammunders will tell you, with an edge in their voice, that the rebellion began as resistance to tyranny before it ever became theology; the faith here is civic and ancestral as much as it is doctrine, worn like the city's name rather than preached at strangers.
The old grudge has never cooled. Flammund keeps a ferocious, generational hatred of Risbern and its lake-rival Bannevar, and the Creed's wars in the east are, to a Flammunder, simply the family quarrel continued by grander means.
The city reads like a northern capital that wandered into the Creed's story: grey stone walls and quays, patterned brick, steep slate roofs against real winters, timber-framed artisan wards rising over masonry firebreaks, and a harbor of lake-ships that never quite empties. Its irrigation belt is worked in great part by veterans settled on land grants — a practice the whole Infernate borrowed from Flammund — and its surplus feeds armies far beyond its own: Flammunder hardtack, with Brunthar's salted mutton and Arodin's dried fish, is the marching ration of the Creedal world. The royal palace stands deliberately apart from the holy precinct; monarchy and faith share the city, and neither kneels to the other.
Flammund's independence is not a legal nicety — it is load-bearing. The kingdom trades with powers that would never treat with Merynon, and its civility reassures merchants that the Creedal world can be safely managed. Eisvelde built its whole policy on that reassurance, mistaking treaties with Flammund for a leash on the Infernate itself. What the Infernate's armies did to Eisvelde in 1338 has left a question hanging over the lake that no Flammunder envoy has yet been made to answer: whether the kingdom is truly a bridge between worlds, or merely the door the fire walks through.
