The Cursed Blue Rose
Salt fog rolls in over the spoil heaps most mornings, and under it Sannastal cuts into the ground the boreal forest stands on. The workings run inland from a coast of broken stone and stunted spruce, and the sea does the carrying: ore comes down from the pits, crosses the sorting floors, and is loaded at quays within sight of the pit heads, which spares the city the ruinous business of moving stone overland. Everything metal here — tools, gear, fastenings — is fought for against the rust that comes with working rock this close to the water.
Sannastal was raised in the second wave of expansion, and its elves have had generations to shape the place around a single trade. The shore work exists to keep the pits supplied and the ore moving, and nobody lives far from either the workings or the water. The Glac Dom holds the city's allegiance, and the ore that leaves these quays leaves on the Glac Dom's account.
