The Cursed Blue Rose
Rain is the constant here. The temperate forest at the centre of the continent stands dripping for most of the year, moss to the crowns, and Versuna sits at the point where a river out of that forest reaches salt water. Both are working roads. Timber, hides, worked goods and whatever the interior wants moved come downstream to the wharves; hulls come in on the tide, take the cargo away and leave other cargo in its place. Warehouses stand high off wet ground on stone footings, steeply roofed, kept dry with a diligence that would look obsessive under any drier sky.
Versuna went up in the first wave of expansion after the original foundations, where the river road and the sea road meet. Its elves trade the way long-lived people trade: slowly, and with a perfect recollection of every previous dealing, which makes a reputation here difficult to build and impossible to repair. Weight, tally and the wording of old agreements settle most quarrels without help. The city answers to Glac Dom, and a great deal of that bloc's cargo passes over these wharves.
