The Cursed Blue Rose
Not much of Korahan shows above the treeline. The town lies inland in boreal forest, with no river and no coast to open it up, so everything it produces leaves the way it came, overland, on cut tracks, in weather that shuts them for part of the year. Mining is the work, on a modest scale: a scatter of workings, sheds and cabins in a clearing the forest is forever trying to take back. Fuel and timber are the one surplus. Nearly everything else is hauled in at cost, which keeps the town frugal and the winter busy, since frozen ground carries loads that would bury a cart in the thaw.
Korahan's allegiance is Basaran's, and the relationship is measured in cartloads: ore out along the forest tracks toward the seat, and back along the same tracks whatever a mining town cannot make for itself. Fourth-wave Ashanar founded it, few enough that the same names turn up on the sorting floor, in the smithy and on the haul road, and the track is the one thing everyone here agrees is worth keeping open.
