The Cursed Blue Rose
Firimal belongs to the fifth and most recent wave of expansion, and it still shows: a small settlement in the temperate desert at the centre of the continent, laid out around its shafts rather than grown around a market. What it has is ore, and what it lacks is everything else. Grain, fuel, timber and fodder are brought in; stone and metal go back out the same way. The desert keeps the place honest about its size — there is no hinterland to feed it, no water to carry for it, and the working season is set by how many hands can be held in one spot at once.
The Firimene are Lohanar, and the arrangement above them is not simple. The settlement answers to Brunthar; the Blood Cov command it directly; and beyond them it is counted within the Glac Dom. What holds steady through the shifting of masters is the faith. Firimal keeps the Religion of the Ruby, and its priestesses — women all, as everywhere in that faith — tend the flame the miners come up to.
