The Cursed Blue Rose
Forest becomes fleet at Sorvasu. Spruce and pine come down out of the boreal country behind the town and go almost directly to the slipways on the shore, where hulls stand in frame through the cold months and take the water with the season. Everything the coast offers is bent to that one purpose: pitch boiled on the beach, rope walked out along the strand, sailcloth stored under cover away from the damp, and an anchorage deep enough for warships rather than merely kind to boats. The town eats from the sea as much as from the land, and the crews that fish in a quiet year man the decks in a bad one.
Placed for water rather than soil, Sorvasu came with the first wave of expansion after the original foundations and has been a naval town ever since. Elves here count a life in voyages instead of years, and a captain will often have outlasted several of the hulls beneath him. Nothing about the place is ornamental. Sorvasu belongs to Glac Dom, and the warships it launches sail under that bloc's orders rather than its own.
